Hospital Costs & Insurance

Hospital Cost Estimates

You may request an estimate of the costs of your procedure. The Hospital or  your specialist can provide you with an estimate of the hospital charges that may apply to your visit.

We are only able to provide you with an estimate of your surgery costs at this time. The actual cost will not be known until after your surgery has been completed and your account is made up at the time of your discharge.

The total cost of your operation will generally comprise of:

  • the hospital charge to cover costs of providing theatre and recovery
  • a hospital accommodation charge
  • a charge for sundries (medical supplies etc)
  • the Surgeons fee
  • the Anaesthetists fee
  • other health professionals whose services may be required (e.g. physiotherapist etc)

Prior Approval

If you have medical insurance you must apply for prior approval from your Insurance Company before your surgery.  Please write the approval number on the health questionnaire.

Please note: some policies do not cover the total costs.  As shortfalls can be significant, please check the total costs that will be covered by your policy.

Southern Cross Affiliated Provider

Some procedures are approved under the Southern Cross Affiliated Provider Scheme.  Your Surgeon must apply for approval on your behalf - please give your Insurance information (e.g. policy number) to your Surgeon.

ACC

Patients whose surgery and treatment is approved by ACC generally will not incur any additiional costs. However some patients (covered by approved affiliated contractors) may incur prescription charges, x-ray/MRI scan surcharges depending on the provider.
